Episode-20 Late cut and Upper cut -19.06.2020

Hi friends,

Hope we are doing practice of previous episode tips and getting benefited, with our past blogs, we have discussed about back foot drills, and in our last episode, I described Hook Shot.
Now we are moving to end the back foot skills with late cut and upper cutLate Cut is most safe shot to play with highest concentration on batting, Upper cut is mix of late cut and hook shot which is can also be played with high concentration on batting and with strong body balancing when bending towards back side, both shots are been played behind the stumps and the pace of the ball can be used perfectly by batsman in these shots.

Late Cut - late cut is played as or after the ball passes the batting player's body and is hit towards the third man position. The cut shot is typically played off the back foot but is also sometimes played off the front foot against slower bowling

The backward movement is usually accompanied by a huge back-lift as the batsman waits for the ball to pass him on the off-side. As the ball crosses the batsman around waist-height and starts to go beyond the batsman, the willow comes across in a horizontal manner, 'cutting' the ball towards the off-side.

late cut is a cross-batted stroke typically played off the back foot by slicing the ball towards third man. ... Lean your head towards the line of the ball to play the shot close to your body and cut the ball at the very last moment to deflect it wide of the keeper's reach.

Upper Cut - An upper cut is a shot played towards third man, usually hit when the ball is pitched outside the off stump with an extra bounce. It is a dangerous shot which can edge the ball to keeper or slips if not executed correctly. The shot is widely used in modern cricket.

This is most magical shot which was invented by GOD OF THE CRICKET, none other than Legend “SACHIN TENDULKAR”.   Tendulkar's craft while using it truly makes him the inventor of the modern uppercut where the ball doesn't stay on the ground but sails over the third man boundary. Not only for records is he arguably the greatest to pick up a cricket bat.

I am trying to describe Upper cut in this way “A half bally, or short pitch ball with the height above chest level or at head level on off side or targeting body of the batsman, he should keep bend himself, Make body in Z shape, Bat to flat and face of the Bat towards Sky, and touch ball softly and to ensure it will cross to wicket keeper,

This is all about the Back foot game in cricket which is finish now, Perfection will come with lot of focus practice and with time, So keep watching keep practicing and keep enjoying the game of gentlemen.

Episode-19 Hook Shot in Cricket - 13.06.2020

Hi friends,

Hope we are doing practice of previous episode tips and getting benefited, with our past blogs, we have discussed about back foot drills like Defense, Drive, Pull, Back foot punch skills.

There are few more shots which can be played on back foot, i.e. Hook Shot, Late Cut, Upper Cut etc,
Hook Shot is the only shot which is played in air only on short pitch or bouncer balls, There will be two results of this shot, Either you will got the maximum run with this shot or you will catch out at boundary, You may be safe if lucky enough to lend at no man land.

Now will going to tell about Hook Shot -

The Term hook shot is used when the shot is played against a ball bouncing at or above chest high to the batsman, the batsman thus "hooking" the ball around behind square leg, either along the ground or in the air.

The most important thing in this shot is – Focus on ball or eye watching till the last moment you are hitting the ball, Remember one this, this shot is to safe guard your body first and to score runs with safety.
I further suggest that this is only introduction of this shot here to know about, you may not follow this shot with small kids, as they cannot control the bounce of the ball at this age and there back foot balance is also not so strong, So only show case this shot in video but have to practice later,
I am attaching some picture here and sharing some you tube links to watch the Hook shot is all about.
In our next episode, we will discuss or learn about Late cut and Upper cut shot..
Keep tuned keep learning keep practicing
Happy Summer vacations to the Kids………….

Episode -18 -Pull Shot - 08.06.2020

Hi friends,

Hope we are doing practice of previous episode tips and getting benefitted, with our past blogs, we have discussed about Square cut.
Now we are going to discuss about pull shot, so first we have to know that what pull shot is..?

Played at its best, the pull shot is one of cricket's finest sights. It's an aggressive, cross-batted shot played off the back foot towards the leg side off a short pitched delivery. It's different to a hook shot because it's played on or around waist high and is easier to control.

But friends, this is very early for our kids, because the ball sense body balance and eye contact on ball, hand eye co-ordination is not so strong in early age, it is required a very long and steady practice on batting,

But I will give a short introduction of this shot and you may practice for a bit.
I am adding some pics and videos of this shot for your reference to understand that how could to play.

Episode -17 Square Cut - 01.06.2020

Hi friends,

Hope we are doing practice of previous episode tips and getting benefitted, with our past blogs, we have discussed about back foot batting skills, Back foot defense and drive.
After doing practice of foot movement toward back side and towards off stump and learnt that how to defense drive a short pitch ball or short of length ball.

Now we will Practice a new shot i.e. Square cut, it is a most safe and scoring shot if played accurately. I am describing below about this shot

“ when any ball is pitching at Sort of good length area and moving towards outside the off stump, now the batsman get the chance to open his/her arms and hit the ball by throwing the elbow over ball towards third man or at point area is called square cut shot”

To Practice this shot, there are few things to remember and to practice…

Body Balance on Back Foot,

Back Foot Movement towards Ball according to Room of the ball, It may be closer or may be far..

Watching of ball till the end of the execution of shot
Punching the ball when it is at Point area or towards Third Man area

Shot must be grounded
Throwing of Elbow

Adding a video for reference so that it can be understood the actual sense of shot playing.

Hope it will be helpful to you to understand the topic..........

Episode 16 - Back Foot Drive - 29.05.2020

Hi friends,

Hope we are doing practice of previous episode tips and getting benefitted, with our past blogs, we have discussed about back foot batting skills , Back foot defense,
After doing practice of foot movement toward back side and towards off stump and learnt that how to defense a short pitch ball or short of length ball.

After doing a vigorous practice of this skill, we can do a good score with these kind of balls by punching into gap and that is called back foot drive,
We have to very accurate and focused while playing this shot, otherwise catch out will be the biggest risk.

So the basic requirement to play this shot are as under

“Watching the ball till the last moment, Body balancing must be intact, Back lift and bat flow should be quick, direction of bat flow should be in gap, and our best try to generate that much of power by which ball to be crossed to the fielder or to be out of his reach,”

Adding a video link for beginners to start practicing this shot. Hope it will help you out to understand the actual drill,

                            https://youtu.be/gXBPkSjQjs8

In our next episode, we will discuss about square cut shot which is most safe and most scoring shot after drive.

Episode -15 Back foot defense drill - 28.05.2020

Hi friends,

Hope we are doing practice of previous episode tips and getting benefitted, with our past blogs, we have discussed about back foot batting skills in our last episode,

After doing practice of foot movement toward back side and towards off stump. Now we will start practicing defense on back foot,
I am describing the back foot defense first-

To play or defense the short pitch or short of length ball, We have to push our self towards back side on back foot to make more space to handle the length and height of the ball, During this shot, our body will be balanced on back foot, head position towards the ball and will watch the ball till the end,
Body must not open to play the shot, Bat should be straighten and face towards ground, Bat will be lift up-to shoulders height,
Movement of body must be quick and focus on ball should be more than front foot.

This is all about description of the back foot defense in literal means but it is difficult to practice this shot without physical or audio visual mode, so I made a Video of this drill to make the things clear. Intially you will see the front front drill and than Back foot drill, So watch full video.
Please watch this video to understand the foot movement, bat position, body balancing, focusing on ball, and I hope it will definitely work to you.

In our next episode, we will discuss about Drive on back foot or also called punching on back foot.

Episode 14- Back foot Batting drills - 27.05.2020

Hi friends,

Hope we are doing practice of previous episode tips and getting benefited, with our past blogs, we have discussed about front foot batting skills,
Now we are going to discuss about back foot batting skills, we can defense the short pitch balls, we can punch that balls too, and square cut, pull, hook, late cut, upper cut etc. are the shots which can be play with back foot skills.
Firstly we have to understand that what is back foot, how to do this, which are the directions and what is the correct technique to do this, So here is the answers of all your queries and anxieties

“To be on the back foot means to be put in a defensive position, to be in retreat, to be knocked off balance. Primarily used in British English, on the back foot is a phrase that is most probably derived from the sport of cricket.”

“It enables you to score runs in the area between mid-off and cover to a delivery just short of a length. As with all other back foot shots, you'll need good balance and quick feet movement. But unlike the hook or square cut, the back foot drive relies more on timing and placement rather than power”

Now for our kids, it’s a bit difficult to understand the foot movement and balancing our body while playing the shot, so we will go one by one, firstly we will practice foot movement only than gradually will go with other drills,
Simple steps to follow-
1.   Take proper stance
2.   Come to the One position similar
3.   Move rear foot slightly towards off stump in band position only
4.   Again come to one position.
Practice there simple four steps to make foot move in back side and in next episode we will discuss about defense on back foot.
Hope the information is worth to you and will help your kid to understand that what is back foot in cricket and how to do foot movement.
